On March 11, one of the largest earthquakes on record struck Japan near the town of Sendai. The initial earthquake was followed by 30-foot waves, devastating Japan’s coastal areas. The death toll continues to mount as assessments of the damage are underway.

How can we help?  We can give: gifts to ELCA Disaster Response, designated for the Pacific Earthquake & Tsunami, will be used entirely (100 percent) in response to this disaster. You can donate online to ELCA Disaster Response by clicking here...

We can also pray for the people of Japan:

Gracious God,
Your word of peace stills the storms that rage in our world.
Bring hope to places that know devastation in the calm after the earthquake.
Bring comfort to those who grieve the loss of loved ones and property.
Let your love be known through those who work to bring order in the chaos.
Help us to shoulder the burden of suffering
and make us bearers of the hope that can be found in you
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
