Saturday, May 3, was our fourth annual Great Day of Service, and we set a record with more than 90 people serving! Members young and old decked out in this year's snazzy brown T-shirts lifted, carried, dug, sawed, pounded, raked, cut, sewed, wrote, played, chopped, cooked and spread God's love. Thanks to Terri and Chip Sakakeeny in leading us again this year. Thanks also to the leaders of the nine service groups and to those who helped set up, tear down and clean up. A big thanks, too, to some generous local businesses that provided us food:
  • So-Cal Tacos (2140 Hall-Johnson Rd, Grapevine) for providing the yummy breakfast tacos
  • Starbucks on 1709 and Nolen Road in Southlake for our morning coffee
  • i Fratelli Pizza (2600 E Southlake Blvd) for providing lunch for several of our projects
  • Roanoke Food Pantry for supplying bottled water and treats for the teams
This year's projects were
  • Clean-up and cookout at the GRACE transitional apartments
  • Clean-up at the Southlake "Relay for Life" American Cancer Society event ("early-bird" event at 6:00 a.m.)
  • Children's Service Camp for ages 3-12 writing cards to our troops and other events
  • Prepare freezer meals for the homebound
  • "Women in Stitches" project to make pillows for chemo patients
  • Yard work at two homes of Mid Cities Care Corps clients
  • Fence repair at the home of a Mid Cities Care Corps client
  • Build a fence at Briarwood Retreat Center
