Some Other Prayers...

God of the day and of the night, in me there is darkness, but with you there is light. I am alone, but you will not leave me. I am weak, but you will come to my help. I am restless, but you are my peace. I am in haste, but you are the God of infinite patience. I am confused and lost, but you are eternal wisdom and you direct my path; now and for ever. Amen

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life. Amen.

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Almighty and eternal God, by traveling the royal road of service your Son leads us from the arrogance of our disobedience to humility of heart. Unite us to one another by your Holy Spirit, so that through service to our sisters and brothers, Your true countenance may be revealed; You, who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

In this season of expectation
We prepare to welcome Christ Jesus, Messiah
Into the bustle of our lives
and the hard to find moments of solitude
We prepare to welcome Christ Jesus, Messiah
Into our homes and situations
along with friends and families
We prepare to welcome Christ Jesus, Messiah
Into our hearts, and those often hidden parts of our lives
We prepare to welcome Christ Jesus, Messiah
For beneath the surface of your story
is an inescapable fact
You entered this world
as vulnerable as any one of us
in order to nail that vulnerability to the cross.
Our fears, our insecurities and our sins
all that can separate us from God
exchanged by your Grace for Love.
We cannot comprehend the reasoning
only marvel that Salvation comes to us
through a baby born in a stable,
and reaches out to a world in need.

In this season of anticipation
We prepare to welcome Christ Jesus, Messiah

John Birch,

I praise you O Lord for all that I see of you in the work of creation, the earth, the sea and sky and everything that has breath. You are worthy to be praised and I know that your promises are true that now I am only beginning to taste the glory that shall be revealed when you O God take power and reign. Lord God I am surrounded by blessings and my heart is full of thanksgiving for all that you have done for me. I know that I am not worthy to be called your child and yet I give you thanks that you love me and gave your only Son Jesus Christ who died for me. Lord God I thank you for all of your faithfulness to me and others who worship you in this place. I praise you that you are faithful good and true and that you hate nothing that you have made. For your love and kindness to me and to all your children I praise your name. Now may the offering of my life and the words of my mouth be acceptable acts of thanksgiving and praise to you. Lord Jesus Christ, fill me I pray with your light that I may reflect your wondrous glory. Amen.

Almighty God, giver of every good gift: Look with favor upon our efforts to seek and call leadership for this congregation. Fill our imaginations, strengthen our commitment, empower our energies, and grant us the grace and wisdom we need. Inspire us by your Holy Spirit to see who we are as a called people, gathered into one fellowship, enlightened by your gifts, and sanctified for the mission and ministry that you have entrusted to us. And grant us the vision to see your hand guiding us to the person and the future that you have in mind for us. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.

If Lord I am so busy this day that I forget you, please do not forget me.  Amen.

For the saints and sinners who have gone before us who shared with us your Good News, we give thanks and praise. Turn us out of ourselves and open us towards our neighbor and the world that you so love. Amen.

Pastors Colin and Jeni Grangaard, from "God Pause"

God of Creation, let us give thanks for your creative Spirit, a spirit of "truth" and "life." May your Spirit keep us in a life of fruitfulness rather than a life of sin. May your grace be upon us this day, and may your Spirit enter our hearts and minds. Amen.

Pastor Craig Wexler, from "God Pause"

Gracious God,
Your word of peace stills the storms that rage in our world. Bring hope to places that know devastation in the calm after the storms. Bring comfort to those who grieve the loss of loved ones and property. Let your love be known through those who work to bring order in the chaos. Help us to shoulder the burden of suffering and make us bearers of the hope that can be found in you.
Through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

God, Holy Spirit, come to us in power and stir our hearts that we may be filled with a sense of urgency, compassion and boldness to share the Good News of your love made known in Jesus Christ. Empower us to live as disciples whose lives attract the kind of attention that allows people to see Christ in us, to the glory of your Holy Name. Amen

From "Grounded in Grace"

For the holy catholic church, that, filled with your love, it may hunger for truth and thirst after righteousness. For all members of the church, that they may serve you in true and godly lives. For Nicholas Billardello, called to be a pastor in the church, that, sustained by your Holy Spirit, he may carry out this ministry with joy and a spirit of bold trust, serve your people, build up your church, and glorify your name. For the peace of the church, that our divisions may be overcome, so that, united in Christ, we may serve the world and bear witness to the good news. For the nations of the world and their leaders, that they may work for justice and promote the dignity and freedom of every person. For the whole creation, that everything you have made may fulfill your purpose and that we may exercise care for your diverse gifts. For the poor, the persecuted, the sick, the lonely, the forgotten, and all who suffer; for refugees, prisoners, and all who are in danger; that they may be relieved and protected. Into your hands, gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.

ELCA Ministry Rite of Ordination

Thank You, thank You, thank You, generous God!
You have injected life with joy, thus we know laughter.
You have dabbed creation with color, thus we enjoy beauty.
You have whistled a divine tune into the rhythm of life, thus we hear music.
You have filled our minds with questions, thus we appreciate mystery.
You have entered our hearts with compassion, thus we experience faith.

Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy

Lord Jesus Christ,
who is, who was, and who is to come,
we pray for the virtue of hope,
that amidst the trials and difficulties of this world,
we may keep our hearts fixed upon you,
who reigns over the cosmos.
May your grace enliven us,
strengthen us, and defend us,
as we await your coming in glory. Amen

David Bennett

Gracious God, Jesus is calling me to a new beginning; to a fresh call to discipleship. You are asking me to deny myself, take up my cross and follow you. It was at my baptism that you claimed me as your child. Today, I affirm that I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. I surrender my will, my desires and my life to you, O God. I commit myself to your call to discipleship: to pray, study your Word, worship you, invite other people to a life of discipleship, encourage Christians in their life of faith, serve those in need, and give joyfully of the gifts that You first gave me.
This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Bishop Jon V. Anderson

Good and Gracious God, You sent your Son to call all people to become his disciples. Inspire us to grow as followers of Christ. Send us to boldly reach out, invite and grow into Jesus and the community that bears his name.
In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen

Bishop Jon V. Anderson

O Lord God,
who called Your servants
to ventures of which we cannot see the ending,
by paths as yet untrodden,
through perils unknown:
Give us faith
to go out with a good courage,
not knowing where we are going,
but only that Your hand is leading us,
and Your love supporting us;
to the glory of Your name. Amen.

Very Rev. Eric Milner-White

We thank you, Lord God, for the brave and believing people who planted your message in this place. We praise you for the gift of your Holy Spirit, who worked in them to gather and give order to this community and who still sustains it. We pray that we may continue to follow in the way, the truth and the life of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
